Major Site Overhall in Progress

At present, I am in the process of re-designing the whole site. There is much work going on behind the scenes with dual style system (light/dark mode).  Most forum pages will have already been changed to the new theme/style. How the site looks at present is not how it will look in the near future, and many features will change how they work.

Buy/sell, bird tabletop sales, bird convention, lost and found birds, bird clubs and bird shows sections are also being re-developed from the ground up. The site will load a lot faster, especially for mobile devices and tablets. This forum, is still in development too, the original forum has been archived. The site is being developed for speed, user-friendly access,  better design including dark and light mode.

Many posts will be restored later in due course as the forum is complete.

Just a quick update. Some people have asked me how the new Buy and Sell section is getting on, well, I am about 80% complete. It will allow free listings, paid listings and featured listings. For a while, paid listings will be disabled because I'd prefer to keep everything on the site free if possible. During testing, pages load fast on mobile and desktop devices, better image compression, smoother layout and easier to create listing. Many pages have been converted to the new layout throughout the site, though member pages have yet to be re-designed.

The DropBox page still needs to be converted because it still has the old style, this page may disappear in due course. All FAQ sections will be updated in the near future when other sections are complete. I have had no time to add content to the Latest News page as yet, I want to concentrate on one area at a time. 

Many features are hidden from the homepage, those will be restores as time goes by, plus there are more features which will be new. I will keep you updated as I work my way through it all.

Update: 03/03.2026

I am still working on the new Buy and Sell section, it is coming along nicely. The old one, still currently being used, only allows a max of 4 images, but the new system will allow us to grant members many more images included in their listings. I have tested the paid listings, they work perfectly, but all ads will be free for the foreseeable future. 

I still have two pages to design in that system, but overall, it is all looking and working really good. I am working through the security side at the moment, so that server side and client side is totally secure (got to protect our members). You will be able to search listings with new options such as by category, sub category, species if the listing is a bird. 

The layouts use React, so everything lines up better depending on screen size and format. Images will be better served and with a cleaner look. When creating a new listing, there are more options to help users find listings better and to categorise them better. UX and UI (user experience and user interface) will be noticeably better and ARIA will be implemented throughout the site to help screen readers. 

Later in the future I plan to implement a feature allowing members to upload images for their listings as well as photos.

Most importantly, when creating a new listing, if a bird is listed as for sale or wanted then a link will appear where you can find your country to determine if a licence is required. Some birds are protected and some are not, it also depends on if you are a buyer or a seller. This feature is already hard coded and works perfectly in the new system.

The laws of buying and selling birds, also gatherings where birds are traded have changed, we will be creating an article on this matter soon because many people are confused by the new laws. We want to set the record strait and help you understad the new laws better.

Back with some news! I am not sure where to start, but a LOT has been done. The new Buy and Sell section is coming alone really nicely and will be avaliable for everyone to use very soon. It is a full stack Marketplace system, only it will work much better, much more secure and offers far more options. For the first year or so, all Ads will be 100% free. It has full capability to charge for ads using Paypal webhooks when ever I decide to enable it. It has the option for Paid Ads, Free Ads or Featured Ads, but for now, they will all be FREE. 

Privacy is my no. 1 concern for everyone, So we will not be allowing people to share their email address or phone numbers in their Ads. If you want to reply to an Ad then you will have to use our private message system so all conversations are kept in strict privacy one to one. Revealing your email or phone number through Ads, or anywhere over the internet is careless. WebSites are scrapped all the time by spiders/bots and other malicsous software searching constantly for email addresses and phone numbers to use for all the wrong reasons. You will not be able to place any Ad without setting your Country and City/Town in your profile first, this would be required to help people find Ads by location. 

CITES are strictly important to how we work here at Avian Directory, these are laws passed by country to help protect endangered species, we only ask that you respect the laws because they are made for a very good reason. When placing an Ad, the option may likely appear (depending on the options you selected) for requiring a CITES Licence accompanied by a link to your country to the CITES website. If you have a CITES Licence, an option box will appear where you may enter it for visitors to view. We have worked very hard to implement the CITES feature into this site, as this is where many other bird trading sites fail. Without this feature, the whole Buy and Sell Birds section on this site would never have been developed.

Features of the Buy Sell section include, create Ad, Edit Ad, My Ads, Search Ads. This list does not include Admin or Moderator pages. Can upload upto 12 images per Ad, can drag n drop images via mobile device of desktop, delete image, rearrange images and which image you move to the first position becomes the default image used as the main image. A lot of time went into designing the image section to handle images as well as it does. 

Overall this new Buy and Sell system is NOT something just thrown together like most other birdie Buy and Sell sites, this is actually an Elite Production ready product which I intend to keep running for free as long as possible. 

Site Light and Dark mode has been developed, but is not enabled just yet, some colours in the forum still need adjusting for light mode, that is why we are stuck with dark mode for now ? however, it does look pretty damn good in Light Mode.

I have updated the Support Request Form to a fully working Production ready environment with a couple of nice nifty features.

I have updated the Edit Profile section, I have also updated the view Profile section.

Updates the gouldian Finch Charts page to include download counters, useful for people that want to know which files are downloaded the most.

I am still working on pages in your Control panels, hence the reason most pages still show the old styling. Once the Buy and Sell system is complete and live, I will begin updating your pages in your Control Panel. 

The forum although working well, still needs a few fixes here n there. I also want to change the way images are shown in the forum for better performance.

I know I have missed out a lot of stuff to mention, but for now, that will do.
