day 8 or 9 I checked chick tonight as it has been very quiet today, looks like it is just really well fed. parents are not in the box constantly now, I think that seems on schedule. But both still sitting well. I can see some feathers beginning. :) heres a pic, there is a spot on the crop in the second photo, not sure if thats just colouration or something I should be concerned about?

update: So I heard a commotion out in the birdshed, never heard such a noise from there and I ran out thinking something was wrong or the chick had been tossed out of the nest box. Seems like it has a fine set of lungs and just wanted more food! crops were bulging so it's definitely been fed. I can't believe it was so loud! I heard it through into my house and the shed is several feet away. if thats a single chick, I can't imagine several all yelling like that! lol

I have started to notice parents are spending less time in the nestbox which I think is normal at this stage too.

first pair I removed eggs as not viable now have some more eggs. I am going out there 2 times a day only to do food, water and fresh food because they are not good sitters and always come out of the nest box when I go in. Hopefully this time they will be more successful :)

It is perfectly normal for gouldians not to sit on the chicks after a few days old. Some will sit with the chicks until they fledge, but most stop sitting after the chicks are a few days old. The reason why they come out of the box when you go in is because they are not used to people being in there from the sounds of it. Mine don't bother to come out as they see me all the time because they are all kept indoors

sso we are this far on. :) think he/she is hitting every mark with the progress/growth stages right on time. quietly hopeful it will make it outside of the box, onto a perch and through its first molt.

its out! hopping around the floor of the cage, saw food in its crop yesterday but none today. I didn't get a chance to change the nest box, theres already 4 eggs in there. I don't know if they are feeding it today but will check this afternoon, when I'm giving them their vegetables, if not, what do i do?

is there a way I can give it the best chance now for survival, any treatments etc?

Sometimes gouldians may stop feeding and concentrate on nesting again. You can hand feed if they are not feeding it, follow this page for more info https://www.aviandirectory.uk/pages/handrearing.php It is not hard to hand feed. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it has food in the crop, if it is empty then they have stopped feeding it.

thank you, I have hand reared a few birds over the years. abandoned nestlings, a canary, some budgies an owl, sick birds and so forth. I'm not well practiced in it but know the basics, especially careful about aspiration. I will  check him later, and see if he will maybe take a top up of handmix which I keep in the house along with syringes just in case. :) thank you.

btw is there a way to have settings to get notifications for the site? like an email or something when I get a response.

That is something I have not programmed yet. I am still building a new navigation panel for the top of the site. It is taking a little bit longer than I hoped because I came down with the flu yesterday and have not felt like programming much while I am ill. I will make a note of it and add that feature later for you 😃
